Company Requirements

Classes

All Spotlight Company members are required to take conditioning, turns and leaps, and ballet classes.  In addition to these technique classes, our competitive dancers will be cast in various competitive routines.  Each dance routine the dancer is cast in would be another competitive-level class that is added to their schedule.  The girls may be cast in some or all of the following dances:  jazz, lyrical, contemporary, hip hop, and/or production.  Class time will consist of warm ups, conditioning, technique development, and choreography; however, it is important to note that a great deal of time is dedicated to perfecting choreography in team classes. Students may also take additional technique classes to continue to grow their skills. In addition to their required classes, (which, depending on the dancer, could range between 3-8 hours a week) there are several of optional classes that they can also take. Any of our wonderful staff can help guide you in making those choices.

Attendance

After two missed lessons in any dance session, competition students will be assigned to make up missed classes in a similar level class to be assigned by the instructor. If a similar level class or genre is not available, the student may be required to make up the class in a private lesson to ensure that the class make-up can be completed within 30 days of the missed class. Private lessons scheduled as a result of 3+ absences will be assessed and charged to the dancer’s account at the current hourly/instructor rate. Missing more than 2 classes MAY lead to the removal from a section of a routine and if it becomes excessive and the dancer does not seem prepared, it is under the discretion of the dance instructor and director if the dancer will be pulled from a routine in its entirety.
